Same Ole’ Story
Hi friends! It’s been a while, per the usual! I promise that I had the best intentions with Wild Beasts Co. in the beginning, but life got in the way and I have been letting it fall by the wayside for months now. Maybe longer. Life seems to be a big blur of endless groundhog days, and to be perfectly frank, I haven’t felt inspired in a long while. I have been worried about the state of the world since childhood, and it doesn't seem to be something that is going to change for a long time, if ever. Between that and other stressors, I had been toying with the idea of calling it quits. I just haven’t been able to make myself do it, so I have decided to hang on to the Wild Beasts Co. brand for a little longer. Mostly because I have found a real purpose for it for the next couple of weeks (at least!)
This past weekend we traveled to Tennessee from Cincinnati to go to my nephew’s birthday party. The cutie patootie turned two this month, and we were fortunate enough to have the time and resources to make the five-hour trek south. The drive from Cincinnati thru Kentucky was treacherous, however. The rain was like Nandor (relentless) and I really felt awful that S had to deal with the drive. I was barely hanging on as a passenger. Along the way we were seeing the makings of dangerous floods in real time. The aftermath was much worse than I was expecting. Lives and homes were lost, and at least one school district closed indefinitely. My home state of Kentucky was once again hit hard by a climate-related disaster. A story all too common these days.
W and a Face Full of Birthday Cake
The world may be sad, but gosh my nephew is a bright star in the dark!
Driving home yesterday was much calmer weather-wise, as we miraculously dodged snowstorms along the way. But the flood waters were nowhere near done rising, and now the region was battling with ice and snow on top of it. Kentucky once again finds itself needing to recover from tragedy.
Today is President’s Day, and I have the day off work. I am grateful for this because it is bitterly cold outside and we are once again covered with snow. I normally love snow and winter, but I am over it this year! Ready for it to not be a hazard just walking to my car, especially since it is definitely a hazard driving these days! People need to chill out on the roads, amiright? I can’t seem to relax, though. Between heartbreaking family news, news about the flooding, and the general world, I am anxious as heck! I tried piddling around the house, and that helped some, but I felt like I needed to be doing something else (that didn’t involve going outside.) Then it dawned on me. I had made some Kentucky-specific designs last year for a failed craft show in the Red River Gorge area, but I never released them on my online shop. What a better time to do it than now? From now until the end of February, I will be donating all profits from my Eastern KY Love and Red River Gorge (RRG) lines to flooding victims in Eastern Kentucky. I have not yet decided on the organization, but once I do I will announce it. Have a suggestion? Let me know!
My thoughts are with the victims of the Kentucky floods and all weather-related disasters.
Take care,
Heather
